Oleksii Goncharenko is a member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the President of the Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
As a Ukrainian MP, he is a member of the “European Solidarity” group in Parliament, and head of the caucuses “For Democratic Belarus,” and “For Free Caucasus.” Currently, MP Goncharenko is deeply involved in advocating for the rights and well-being of Ukraine’s military personnel, for instance, increasing the duration of leaves and increasing payouts for various categories of military personnel.
As a Ukrainian delegate to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, MP Goncharenko repeatedly raised the importance of supporting the Ukrainian nation in its fight against Russia; he actively advocated for the expulsion of the Russian delegation from PACE. In 2024, he was appointed President of the Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons in PACE.
In June 2024, MP Oleksiy Goncharenko, together with his colleagues from the Parliament — who are also part of the Forum’s Advisory Board — initiated the first edition of the Black Sea Security Forum that took place in Odesa, Ukraine. The Forum became the first large political event held in the city since the full-scale invasion in February 2022 and brought together over 350 participants from more than 20 countries to discuss the strategic importance of the Black Sea region for Europe and the world.
